MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Newberry College recorded wins as the top four singles flights to rally for a 4-3 non-conference women's tennis victory over Georgia College & State University Wednesday (Feb. 5) afternoon at the Centennial Center Tennis Courts.
The Wolves improved to 2-0, while the Bobcats fell to 0-1. GCSU returns to action Friday (Feb. 7) for a 2 p.m. home match against Emmanuel (Ga.) University.
The Bobcats earned the doubles point as GCSU got wins from
Chiara Santoro and
Rachel Black (7-5) at No. 1, while
Victoria Conde Vendrell and
Shradha Chhabra teamed up for a 6-4 decision at No. 3.
GCSUÂ expanded its lead to 2-0 as Black earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, but the Wolves earned victories at the top four flights to clinch the match. Chhabra recorded the other Bobcat point as she won a three-set match (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) at No. 6.
