Deshona Gaither has been named the Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week ending Feb. 22.
Gaither, a senior guard from Commerce, Georgia, averaged 26.5 points and five rebounds in two victories for the Bobcats last week. She shot 43.2 percent (19-of-44) from the floor and 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the charity stripe in two games to go along with 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals and a blocked shot.
She scored 25 points, including two free throws with 0.6 seconds left, to lead GCSU past the University of North Georgia 67-65. Gaither, who was also named the Zaxbys Player of the Week, followed that performance with 28 points in a 65-60 overtime victory on homecoming against Georgia Southwestern State University. She went 11-of-19 from the floor as the Bobcats overcame a five-point deficit with three minutes remaining to force other the extra time.
Gaither is currently ranked fifth in the Peach Belt in steals per game (2.3), eighth in free throw shooting (.739, 105-of-142), and 10th in scoring (13.2).
The Bobcats, who have two road games remaining in the regular season, travel to Greenwood, South Carolina, to face Lander University in a 5:30 p.m. Peach Belt game Wednesday (Feb. 25). GCSU is tied for eighth place in the conference standings entering the final week of the season. The top eight teams advance to the 2026 tournament which begins March 4.
