MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College &
State University women's basketball team (9-5, 4-3 PBC) destroyed
No. 17 Clayton State University (11-3, 5-2 PBC) 78-53 tonight (Jan.
19) at the Centennial Center.
Emily
Bixler (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Dominique Huffin
(Tucker, Ga.) led the Bobcats in scoring tonight with 16
points each while Mandi Dudish
(Snellville, Ga.) added 13. With one rebound away from a
double-double, Bixler snagged nine boards in her best overall game
of the season and Dudish grabbed five.
Marie St. Fort and Lisa Jackson led the Lakers with 12 and 10
points, respectively. Jackson also led her team in rebounds with
seven. Georgia College out-rebounded Clayton State tonight 52-48.
The Lakers shot 52.6 percent from the free throw line hitting 10
out of 19 while the Bobcats were 67.7 percent from the line making
21-of-31.
Antoinette Reames (Orlando, Fla.) along with Bixler led Georgia
College in rebounds with nine. Reames also tacked on six points,
going 2-for-2 from the charity stripe with two steals. Huffin with
a team high of four steals for the night, added six points.
Tiauna
Brantley (Woodstock, Ga.) put up eight points and four
rebounds for the Bobcats while Shandrea Moore (Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.) had five points, one rebound, five
assists and one steal.
With the win tonight, Georgia College snaps a six game losing
streak to Clayton State. This is the second win for the Bobcats
against a ranked opponent; the first was against No. 25 Wingate
University Dec. 30. The 25- point deficit is the biggest loss for
the Lakers in four seasons under head coach Dennis Cox.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 21 against
Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga. at 5:30 p.m. The next home
game is Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. as they take on No. 18 USC
Aiken.
