MORROW, Ga. - The three-point shot, which had
been such a crucial part of Georgia College & State University
women's basketball's (5-4, 0-2 PBC) three-game win streak fell
short tonight (Jan. 5) in a 78-60 loss at Clayton State University
(9-1, 3-0 PBC). Junior guard Shandrea Moore (Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.) scored 20 points, the best total of her
GCSU career.
Georgia College shot 36.9 percent from the floor, including a
7-for-29 (.241) second half. The Lakers hit for 42.4 percent
(28-66) overall. The Bobcats were 2-for-19 from long range (.105).
Moore led four Bobcats in double-figure scoring, shooting
7-for-10 from the floor and pacing the team with four assists.
Classmate Antoinette Reames
(Orlando, Fla.) had her second double-double of the season
with 11 points and 11 boards, while Tiauna Brantley
(Woodstock, Ga.) and Dominique Huffin
(Tucker, Ga.) chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Shanreka Hardeman led the way for Clayton State with 15 points
and 11 boards, but was held under wraps in the second half, scoring
just two points. She was aided by 15 from Nikkisha Pritchett off
the bench, and 10 each from Lisa Jackson, Dominique Jennings and
Lesheria Stevens.
The Lakers used a 14-2 run over the final five minutes of the
first half to take the lead for good, after trading blows with GCSU
for much of the first frame.
Brantley has now scored in double figures in each of the nine
games this season. The Bobcats lead in the all-time series has been
cut to 19-16, as Clayton State has taken the last six meetings.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m.,
traveling to North Georgia College & State University (3-7, 0-3
PBC). The Saints most recently lost to Armstrong Atlantic State
University 81-60 tonight.
