ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The
Georgia College & State University soccer team (7-5-3, 3-1-2
PBC) got its second-straight shutout today (Oct. 17) 2-0 against
Flagler College (6-5-1, 3-2-1 PBC). The blanking was the seventh
this season for the Bobcat defense.
Early in the 23rd minute, an unassisted Anna
Wierzbicki (Newnan, Ga.) netted the first goal of the
contest from left side of the penalty box. It was the freshman's
second goal this season.
The Bobcats kept the first half excitement going when sophomore
Megan
McAlpin (Newnan, Ga.) sent a ball from the left side,
just under the crossbar and into the goal during the
44th minute. The assist went to senior Erika Kolodin
(Acworth, Ga.), her first for the 2009 campaign. McAlpin
continues to lead Georgia College with five goals for the season.
In the net for the Bobcats, junior Mary Rob Plunkett
(Augusta, Ga.) snagged three saves while Christie Reuther
made two stops for the Saints. Plunkett now has three shutouts on
the season, and a school-record 14 in her career.
Flagler out-shot Georgia College 16-10, while the Bobcats put up
four shots on goal to Flagler's three. The 'Cats also won the
battle in the corners 3-2.
The win gives the Bobcats 11 points in the Peach Belt Conference
(PBC) Standings, good for fourth after today's action. The top four
spots host match-ups in the opening round of the PBC Tournament.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 21 hosting
conference foe UNC Pembroke at 5 p.m.
