NEWBERRY, S.C. - A Josh Hurst (Athens, Ga.) free-throw with two seconds left capped a remarkable comeback for Georgia College & State University men's basketball (6-1), giving them a 77-76 win at Newberry College (3-6) tonight (Dec. 15).

Down by as many as 20 in the first half and eight at the break, Georgia College shot 70 percent (14-20) in the second half, including a perfect 4-for-4 from downtown, rallying to take the season sweep.

Junior reserve guard Andre Mikell (Snellville, Ga.) energized the comeback charge with a career-high 17 points, with four assists and three steals. Starter Ty Rowland (Lilburn, Ga.) and reserve forward Robert Thomas (Mankato, Minn.) each had 15 points. Rowland added eight assists and a trio of steals, while Thomas ripped down six rebounds and swatted three shots. The 15 was a Bobcat best for the senior transfer Thomas.

Senior guard Graham Martin (Marietta, Ga.) had nine of his 11 points in the second half. He remains the lone Bobcat to score in double figures in all seven contests this season. Hurst finished with five points and six boards.

Two Thomas free throws gave Georgia College a five-point lead with just over a minute left, but two lay-ups by Ray Robinson-the second being a three-point play-knotted the game at 76-76 with 28 seconds remaining. Attempting to run the clock to get the last shot before the final buzzer, Hurst was fouled with two seconds left, made the first toss, missed the second, but Newberry failed to get an effective shot off before the buzzer.

Newberry reserve guard Coleman Young led all scorers with 19, not missing a shot while going 6-for-6 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the line. Robinson had 14 points and four rebounds, while Rodney Lee and Danny Huffor had 10 and 11 points, respectively.

Martin's 11 points give him 998 points in his career at Georgia College, looking to become the 13^th member of the 1,000-point club for the school. Rowland's eight assists give him 257, tied with Shejdie Childs for seventh place all-time at GCSU. The win was the 575^th in program history.

The Bobcats have a long break, returning to action at the Hampton Inn & Suites Holiday Classic, in Savannah, Ga. Dec. 29-30. Georgia College opens with Wingate University and finishes with Voorhees College on day two.
