MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The
Georgia College & State University women's basketball team
(14-5, 9-3 PBC) subdued Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe, North
Georgia (5-15, 2-11 PBC), tonight (Feb. 4) 61-58 in overtime.
After second half struggles it was all Bobcats in OT as they
outscored North Georgia 5-2 giving Georgia College the 61-58
victory. The 'Cats put the clamps on, not conceding a field
goal in the extra frame.
The Bobcats led 37-18 at the end of the first half and allowed
the Saints to come marching back in the second half. The Saints'
defense stepped up big in the second forcing the Bobcats to shoot
an abysmal .286 from the floor while they made .528.
Saints forward Syretha Marble hit a layup with 1:26 left in the
second half to give North Georgia the one point advantage, 54-53
their first lead since the 19:14 mark in the first half. Fourteen
seconds later Shandrea Moore (Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.) came down the court and dished it to
Mandi
Dudish (Snellville, Ga.), who nailed a three-pointer
giving the Bobcats a short 56-54 lead.
Center Sarah Stinson was able to get by the Bobcat defense and
lay the ball in the basket tying the game at 56-56 with just under
a minute left to eventually send the game into overtime.
Daniela Nopuente
(Daly City, Calif.) came off the bench and led the Bobcats
with 14 points tying her career high which she set against Augusta
State University on Jan. 31.
Junior Candice
Clark (Cochran, Ga.) stepped up
tonight going .600 (3-5) from the charity stripe and shooting .333
(3-9) from the floor giving her nine points, a career high. Clark
was also able to snag eight rebounds, five of which were defensive.
Sophomore guard Dudish could not have hit a three at a better
time when she put her Bobcats up two. Dudish finished the game with
nine points all coming behind the three-point arc.
The Bobcats' tallest player, Antoinette Reames
(Orlando , Fla.), stands at 6-feet-1 and has been a
dominant force down low. Reames has been on a blocking rampage with
12 blocks in the last three games. Tonight, Reames finished the
game with 10 rebounds, nine points and six swats, one off the
school record she tied earlier this season against Wingate
University.
The Bobcats finish their six-game homestand Wednesday, Feb. 11
when the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic State University come to
town with the game starting at 5:30 p.m.
