MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College &
State University women's basketball team (9-4, 2-1 PBC) shut down
conference opponent Georgia Southwestern University (7-6, 2-1 PBC)
66-48 tonight (Jan. 13) in a record setting night in the Centennial
Center.
Senior Antoinette Reames
(Orlando, Fla.) was impressive tonight, leading the
Bobcats with 16 points and 17 rebounds, her fourth double-double of
the season. The 6-foot-1 forward also had five swats, claiming a
new school record with 96 career blocks. She passed Dalana
Watson (1990-2003) and Ashley Williams
(2004-08), who formerly held the title with 94 blocks
each.
Reames' classmate and fellow Floridian Shandrea Moore (Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.) also scored a team-high of 16 points,
collecting her sixth double-digit scoring performance for the
2009-10 campaign. Moore also led Georgia College in assists with
four.
Junior Chimere Jordan
(Gray, Ga.) helped the Bobcats with nine points, seven
rebounds and two blocks, while Shaquana Bleach
(Ellenwood, Ga.) also scored nine, all from three-point
range.
For the Hurricanes, Brandi Burris recorded a team-high of 15
points, while snagging nine boards. Nadirah Gardner helped the
offensive efforts putting up nine points with four rebounds, while
Brittany Reynolds scored seven with a team-high of nine boards.
Whitley Wiltz contributed seven points and seven rebounds for
Georgia Southwestern.
Georgia College out-rebounded GSW 53-42, while out-scoring the
Canes 22-12 in the paint. The Bobcat bench put up 19 points
compared to Georgia Southwestern's three. However, the Hurricanes
still lead the all-time series 23-21 over the 'Cats.
GSW had the advantage for the first 8 minutes and nine seconds
of the contest, when a Jessica Baker
(Snellville, Ga.) three-pointer put Georgia College in
front 9-7. The Bobcats never relinquished the lead from there.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 16 as they travel
to Savannah, Ga. to face the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic State
University (5-5, 2-1 PBC) at 1:30 p.m.
