MORROW, Ga. - The Georgia College & State
University women's basketball team (8-4, 1-1 PBC) picked up its
first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) win of the season tonight (Jan.
9) 73-60 against No. 11 Clayton State University (11-2, 2-1 PBC).
The victory also marks the second win for the Bobcats over a ranked
opponent in the young season, the first coming in the 68-67
season-opener against No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Chimere Jordan
(Gray, Ga.) led the Bobcats tonight putting up 18 points,
while Teshymia Tillman carried the Lakers with 27. Jordan scored
all 18 from behind the three-point arc and also managed to grab
five rebounds. The Bobcats spread out the scoring opportunities
tonight, having four players net double-digits.
Junior Dominique Huffin
(Tucker, Ga.) contributed 15 points with five boards,
while senior Shandrea Moore (Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.) recorded a double-double with 13 points
and 10 assists, matching her career high in helps. Moore loves
playing in Morrow, as the senior had 20 points at Clayton State a
year ago.
Sophomore Tammeshia Law
(Athens, Ga.) was just shy of a double-double, tallying 10
points and nine boards, while Antoinette Reames
(Orlando, Fla.) led the team in rebounds with 11, also the
game high.
For Clayton, Tanisha Woodard helped scoring efforts putting up
10 points, and Tillman also snagged six boards. Breanna Fort
collected a team-high of 10 rebounds for the Lakers tonight with
six points.
Georgia College out-shot Clayton State .40 percent (27-68) to 36
(22-61) from the floor, but the difference came behind the arc, as
GCSU hit 48 percent (13-27) to 22 (4-18) from three-point range.
However, the Lakers were perfect at the line going 12-for-12, while
the Bobcats were 75 percent (6-8). Georgia College won the
rebounding battle 44 to
37.
The Bobcats have had four ranked opponents in just 12 games this
season, rising to a 2-2 record. The Bobcats are 21-16 all-time with
Clayton, including wins in the last two. Reames recorded one block,
and now is tied for fourth in school history with 91 in her career.
Huffin hammered home two three pointers, tying GCSU Athletics Hall
of Famer Sherita Ballard (1987-91) for
10th all-time.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 13 hosting
Georgia Southwestern University at 5:30 p.m. in the Centennial
