MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The
Georgia College & State University women's basketball team
(17-6, 10-3 PBC) received a sweet treat today (Feb. 13) with a
57-54 victory over USC Aiken (13-11, 8-7 PBC) just in time for
Valentine's Day.
Chimere Jordan
(Gray, Ga.) led the Bobcats offensively, scoring 19 points
in a contest that saw six lead changes and things knotted up three
times.
Down by one with just over five minutes left to play, the junior
hit a layup giving the 'Cats a 49-48 advantage; they never
relinquished the lead. However, the Pacers battled back bringing
things within one when the Gray native drained a three-pointer with
52 seconds on the clock, putting things out of reach for the
Pacers. Jordan also had four rebounds, two assists, two steals and
one block.
Senior Antoinette Reames
(Orlando, Fla.) helped with a lucky trio of 13's, putting
up 13 points and snagging 13 boards on the 13th day of
the month. This marked her seventh double-double of the 2009-10
campaign. Reames recorded six swats, taking the 13th
spot in career blocks in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) record
books with 123, edging out UNC Pembroke's Jennifer Lance
(1998-2002).
Junior Dominique Huffin
(Tucker, Ga.) rounded out the double-digit scoring Georgia
College with 11 points going 3-for-4 from downtown, while
Shandrea
Moore (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) tallied seven points and
seven assists.
USC Aiken also had three players scoring double-digits. Lindsay
Sundberg had a team high of 12 points, while Catherine Cain put up
11 and Kendra Chandler recorded 10. Deandra Schirmer led the Pacers
with 11 boards, while Chandler grabbed eight. Hannah DeGraffinreed
paced the team with nine points and five assists.
USCA outscored the 'Cats off the bench 21-11, but Georgia
College won the contest of second chances, 10-8. The Pacers took
the battle off the boards 35-34 and 26-20 in the paint. Georgia
College went .400 from the floor compared to Aiken's .346. However,
the 'Cats struggled from the charity stripe shooting 55.6
percent, while the Pacers were 81.3 percent from the line.

with Clayton State University (19-4, 10-3), while Lander University
(21-1, 14-0 PBC) continues to lead the East Division, undefeated in
conference play.
