MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The
Georgia College & State University women's basketball team
(18-7, 11-4 PBC) was victorious in Saturday's (Feb. 20) Homecoming
catfight against the Columbus State University Cougars (15-10, 9-6
PBC), winning 55-43 at the Centennial Center.
Junior Chimere Jordan
(Gray, Ga.) led the Bobcats with 17 points and a
career-high of six steals. She also snagged six rebounds, five of
which were off the defensive glass.
Forward Tammeshia Law
(Athens, Ga.) helped the Georgia College offensive
efforts, scoring a career-high of 15 points, her fourth
double-digit scoring game for the 2009-10 campaign. The sophomore
also had a team-best today of seven boards.
Senior Antoinette Reames
(Orlando, Fla.) rounded out the double-digit scoring for
the Bobcats with 11 points. She grabbed five rebounds and claimed
four steals, while swatting one. Her classmate and fellow Florida
native, Shandrea Moore (Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.) recorded a team-high tonight of six
assists.
For the Columbus State, Phebe Smith and Monique Jackson put up
10 points each. Renee Jackson led the Cougars in assists with five,
while Hali Moore led the team with seven boards.
Columbus State out-rebounded Georgia College 36-34, while GCSU
outshot CSU .382 to .341 from the floor. The Bobcats outscored the
Cougars 22-16 on points in the paint and 14-4 on second chance
points. However, Columbus State's bench outscored the Georgia
College bench 14-6.
At 11-4 in conference play, the Bobcats sit atop the Peach Belt
Conference (PBC) West standings, leading Clayton State University
by one game.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 24 for Senior
Night against PBC opponent the University of Montevallo, starting
at 5:30 p.m.
