MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Freshman
Katie Taylor (Sharpsburg, Ga.) hit for the third
and fourth goals of her first year, powering Georgia College &
State University soccer (3-3, 1-0 PBC) to a 3-0 win over Georgia
Southwestern State University (2-5, 0-1 PBC) in both team's
first Peach Belt Conference action of the 2010 season. The
evening's contest was the team's "Think Pink
Night" for breast cancer awareness.
All three goals came in the second half after Bobcat dominance
in the first frame. Despite a 13-1 shot advantage at the half,
Georgia College had a 0-0 scoreboard.
Taylor cracked the scoring column first, in the 76th
minute. She collected a loose ball on the left side, and sent it
toward net with her right foot. The shot then deflected off the
right side of a defender's head and found the net past a
diving goalkeeper.
Taylor's second score was 2:26 later, when freshman
Taylor Yee (Alpharetta, Ga.) cracked a shot off
GSW goalkeeper Courtney Allison. The ball landed in front of
Taylor, who knocked it into the net for a 2-0 lead. The assist was
Yee's first of her college career.
The final strike came from deep on the right side in the
82nd minute, as sophomore Anna Wierzbicki
(Newnan, Ga.) unloaded toward the net for her first goal
of the season.
Senior Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) made
two saves for her second shutout of the season. She now has 18
career shutouts, tying the University of North Florida's
Haley Epsteen for seventh in PBC history. Allison made nine saves
in the loss.
