GC Men's Hoops Falls in PBC Quarterfinal, 74-68

Box Score

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (18-9) continues to be a thorn in the side of Georgia College (16-10) beating the Bobcats for the third time this season, this time a 74-68 game in the opening round of the GEICO Championship Series Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament.

Junior guard Jared Holmes (Indianapolis) poured in 23 points, a career-high for the first-year Bobcat, but it wasn't enough to hold off a late run by the Falcons that took the victory.

When Ryan LeGates (Marietta, Ga.) hit his only jumper with 8:35 remaining, it gave GC a six-point lead at 59-53, and it appeared as though the Bobcats may be continuing into the semifinal round. The Falcons responded with a quick 6-0 run over the next 3:30, and dominated the game 19-9 the rest of the way.

Senior Reece Wiedeman (Suwanee, Ga.) had 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while JP Davis (Albany, Ga.) and Mike Augustine (Waterloo, Ill.) added 11 points apiece.

The Bobcats lost the turnover battle 19-12, and shot nine less free-throws than the Falcons, resulting in a 10-point difference at 24-14 from the charity stripe.

Antoine Davis led the Falcons with a 17-point, 10-rebound performance, aided by 12 each from Jonas Brown and Jervan Jackson. Tyrell Coleman added to the cause with 10 points.

The loss brings the PBC Tournament hopes to a close for Georgia College, and will force them to await the at-large selections to the NCAA Tournament, to be announced Sunday night. The hopes are slim however, as GC was ranked seventh in the last region poll, and has lost twice since.
