by Matthew Dalby, sports information graduate assistant

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Georgia College softball team (6-20) dropped a pair of heartbreakersat Limestone College (5-13-1)Friday. In eight innings, GC lost the first game 13-12, and the second game only produced five runs total, but GC ended up on the wrong side 3-2 in five innings.

The Bobcat offense erupted in game one, scoring a season-high 13 runs on 10 hits.Trailing 3-1 heading into the top of the third, Corby Holmes (Social Circle, Ga.)led the inning with a walk.Following two quick outs, junior Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.) stepped to the plate and belted a game-tying two-run home run.Fellow battery-mate Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.)put the 'Cats up immediately after as she hit a bomb to right field.

Unfortunately, the Bobcats were unable to hold the lead as the game was a back-and-forth struggle into extra innings.

In the extra frame, Georgia College would pour on four runs thanks to four walks from Saints pitching. It was not enough though, as Limestone put up a five spot in the bottom half. The walk-off run was scored on a bases loaded walk.

Parker would end up 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run, while freshman Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.)would continue her solid play going 3-for-4 while driving in a career-high four RBI.

Game two would present a much different type of game, with both pitchers buckling down.GC starter Sabrina Chandler (Covington, Ga.)would throw a complete game, allowing just the three runs in the second inning.

The Bobcats would rally to score a run in the top of the fourth and sixth innings, but it was just not enough as they fell 3-2.

Senior Brandie Monroe (Savannah, Ga.) would score both of GC's runs despite not recording an official at-bat.

Georgia College continues their lengthy road stretch, traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. for the Mid-South Classic. They will take on Fairmont State University Saturday, March 5 at 9 a.m. and have a break before playing Wingate University at 7 p.m.
