GC Volleyball Ends Season on High Note

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball team (6-23) and head coach Gretchen Krumdieck ended the inaugural season on a high note, winning their final match of the season Saturday in the Centennial Center against the Paine College Lions (9-21).

The Bobcats took the first three sets of the match, 25-14, 25-13, and 25-4.

The bench came alive in today's match with freshman Miller Howard (Suwanee, Ga.) leading the squad with 13 kills. She was accompanied by Ashley Savransky (Roswell, Ga.)  with 11. Rachel Rice (Johns Creek, Ga.) contributed eight and junior Lauren Johnston (Acworth, Ga.) added five. The Lions' defense was no match for the Bobcats' front line as they only had 29 digs to the Bobcats' total of 46 kills.

"It was an all-around team effort, our energy was high and it was a great end to our first season," said Krumdieck. "Our future is very bright."

Freshman Lindsay Holmes (Norcross, Ga.) stepped in this afternoon and tallied a total of 11 digs. Rice rounded up a total of seven. Sarah Sather (Appling, Ga.) and Ella Anastasiades (Atlanta) both added six digs for a team total of 42.

The Lions were unable to produce a player with double-digit kills. Deja Sims-Dean led the team with three. Bria Hines, Lydia Elmore, Aaliyah Myrick, and Breanna Orton all added two.

With no seniors on the roster, the Bobcats could return their squad next season. The Bobcats finished 6-23 overall and 2-23 in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). Statistical leaders for the Bobcats this season were Rachel Reynolds (Marietta, Ga.) with 352 kills, Caroline Ham (Marietta, Ga.) with 450 digs, Micayla Patterson (Tyrone, Ga.) with 945 assists, and Blake Willoughby (Savannah, Ga.) with 52 blocks.
