Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – In a match where both teams were playing for the final Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament position, the Georgia College women's soccer team (7-9-1, 5-6 PBC) took a 1-0 double-overtime thriller from Flagler College (4-12-1, 3-7-1 PBC) Saturday at Bobcat Field.
Both teams were set for a "win and you're in" scenario today, in essence a play-in match for the PBC playoffs. With everything on the line, both teams' defenses rose to the occasion on Bobcat Senior Day.
The match winner came late in double overtime. Senior Abby Dalton (Macon) stole a ball inside the midfield circle. She shook one defender and sent a pass to the right side toward Ally Barys (Ladera Ranch, California) that threaded the defense. Barys worked a good angle to pass one defender on the right, then beat the goalkeeper one-on-one to end the match. The goal was Barys' third this season, the assist Dalton's fifth.
The Bobcats recorded a slight advantage in possession, resulting in an 18-15 lead in shots and 8-2 advantage in corners.
Freshman Meredith Carson (Alpharetta) made five saves to record her first career shutout. Kaeta Choquette stopped six in seven tries for the Saints.
The Bobcat win combined with a loss for USC Aiken today should give Georgia College the No. 7-seed in the PBC Tournament, set to start Tuesday, Nov. 4. If that holds up, the Bobcats will travel to the University of North Georgia Tuesday.
