DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College women's soccer (2-5-1, 0-3 PBC) dropped a tough battle at No. 19 University of North Georgia (7-1, 1-0 PBC) Saturday, Sept. 27. After a tough first half the Bobcats fell 4-0.
The Bobcats put up a strong defensive front in the first half of play. The 'Cats are only one of two teams to keep the Nighthawks from scoring in the first 45 minutes of play this season. Senior Annie Stephens (Fayetteville,Georgia) protected the goal tightly, having five saves in the first half and finishing with nine. Freshman Rahliat Animashaun (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) had a breakout match, registering her first career start as a Bobcat.
The second half did not go smoothly for Georgia College. In the 53rd minute, the Nighthawks netted the first goal of the match. Three minutes later they scored the second, with the third coming a minute and a half after that. The final goal of the match came off an unassisted kick by Jessica Dacey from a thrown in ball. Three out of the four goals were unassisted, while all four goals were scored by different Nighthawks.
The Bobcats will travel to No. 6 Columbus State University to participate in the Battle for the Pickle Barrel Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.
