Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women's basketball team (7-6, 3-3 PBC) dominated the top team in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Saturday, beating No. 17 Columbus State University (14-1, 5-1 PBC) 73-62 in the Centennial Center.
Georgia College took the lead for good at the 13:58 mark in the first half, part of a 31-7 run the Bobcats enjoyed for a nine-minute stretch in the first half.
Leading 42-29 into halftime, the Bobcats wouldn't let up, as CSU got the score down to a one-possession game on two occasions, but would inch no closer.
Sophomore guard LaRice Walker (Franklin) scored a team-best 18 points with four rebounds and four assists, while freshman Alyah McGriff (Suwanee) tallied a career-high 15 points off the pine.
Senior Enisha Donley (Loganville) scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting in just 11 minutes of play, while classmate Belinda Schaafsma (Momence, Illinois) posted a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, the first of her career.
Walker continues her torrid pace in PBC games, averaging 12.2 overall the point guard ups her scoring to 15.7 in conference matchups.
The Bobcats out-shot CSU 44 percent (25-57) to 37 percent (24-65) from the field, and were aggressive on the offensive end, hitting 21 free throws to just eight for the Cougars. The top scorer from the charity stripe was junior Kayla Upchurch (Alpharetta), scoring all six of her points on 6-of-6 from the line. The Bobcats hit 21-of-28 for 75 percent, including 11-of-14 in the second half.
Michelle Mitchell had a game-high 20 points for CSU, leading three in double-digit scoring. Dee Dee Deshazer added 11, while Ashley Asouzu chipped in 10.
The win for Georgia College was the first over a ranked opponent since beating No. 23 University of North Georgia in the PBC Semifinals last season.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m., playing host to Clayton State University.
