Box Score AMERICUS, Ga. – For the second-straight game, the Georgia College women's basketball team (5-6, 1-3 PBC) battled back from an early deficit, only to lose momentum late in a loss. This time it was a 74-69 battle at Georgia Southwestern State University (9-2, 3-1 PBC) Monday night.
The Bobcats trailed 43-26 at the break and by as many as 19 in the second half. Georgia College used a 26-7 run to tie the game at 56-56 on an Alyah McGriff (Suwanee) put-back with six minutes left.
Georgia Southwestern responded with a 12-0 run to take the game back over during a three minute stretch.
Sophomore point guard LaRice Walker (Franklin) poured in a career-high 21 points, adding a team-best seven boards. Freshman McGriff scored a career-high 12 points off the pine, knocking down 6-of-8 from the field.
Senior Shanteona Keys (Roswell) and junior Kayla Upchurch (Alpharetta) joined the double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Keys has 10-plus points in all 11 games this season, and owns a 17-game streak of double-figure scoring.
The Bobcats out-shot GSW 45 percent (28-62) to 35 percent (25-71) from the floor, but the Hurricanes made up for it in rebounding 49-38.
GSW reserve Yvonna Dunkley led all scorers with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Shanedra Lockett added a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double of her own.
Senior Enisha Donley (Loganville) had a sub-par game at just eight points, but did pass Chimere Jordan (2009-11) for 13th in school scoring history with 1,105 in her career.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m., traveling to the University of Montevallo.
