ATLANTA, Ga. - The Georgia College women's basketball team (5-1) outlasted Clark Atlanta University (1-3) on Monday night in Atlanta to pick up their fifth straight win 74-67 over the Panthers.
The Bobcats trailed after the first quarter 18-13, but took a 20-19 lead with 5:51 left in the second quarter. Georgia College never relinquished the lead after that point, thanks to a stellar performance from the Bobcat offense.
Five Bobcats finished with double digit scoring totals against the Panthers on the way to the win.
Veronica Ryan (Clearwater, Florida) finished with career high 11 points, while
Alyah McGriff (Suwanee, Ga.) finished with 13.
Ellie Fruit (Henderson, Kentucky) also finished with a career high, adding 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting from behind the arc.
Mckenna Rushton (Gainesville, Ga.) finished with 11, making it four straight games with double digit scoring, and Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week,
Kadesha Gibbs (Claremont, North Carolina), tied for the game-high lead in scoring.
Gibbs continues to be supernova hot, posting her third straight double-double and finishing the night with career highs in points and rebounds. Gibbs was all over the court on Monday, grabbing an astounding 23 rebounds and finishing with 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting.
Gibbs' 23 rebounds place her fifth on the all-time Georgia College leaderboard for rebounds in a game. The last time a Bobcat pulled in more than 23 rebounds GC legend Willine Chatfield snagged 24 boards against Fort Valley State University in Feb. 1980.
In addition to the multiple career nights in scoring and rebounding, Christina Thomas (Augusta, Ga.) helped feed Gibbs and the rest of the Bobcat offense at an impressive clip, finishing with a career-high eight assists in the win.
The Bobcats have made this impressive streak mostly on the road, playing four of their last five away from Milledgeville, while winning by almost 10 points per game.
The Bobcats will look for win number six in a row, once again on the road, as they travel to face Tuskegee University on Monday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m.
