MORROW, Ga. – The Georgia College women's basketball team (13-11, 9-8 PBC) found it tough going Wednesday night on the road, as Clayton State University (16-10, 10-7 PBC) edged the Bobcats 59-51.
The Bobcats were down 10 points at the half, and then came out strong after the break with a 10-3 run to pull within six. Georgia College drew within four points of the Lakers with 43 seconds left in the contest, but the Bobcats were unable to complete the comeback.
Enisha Donley (Lawrenceville) added her second double-double of the season and for her career. The senior forward finished the night with 18 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Bobcats in both categories. The double-digit effort also marked Donley's 66th 10-plus scoring game for her Georgia College career. Donley now stands at 1,261 career points, now good for sixth place all-time, passing Carla Hull at 1,259.
LaRice Walker (Franklin) and Shanteona Keys (Roswell) were the other two Bobcats in double-figures. Walker ended the night with 12 points and six rebounds, her ninth time this season and her 20th of her Georgia College career in double-figures. Keys played 28 minutes for Georgia College and added 13 points and six boards, she is now just 80 behind the career scoring record at Georgia College in Sherita Ballard at 1,819. Keys' effort was her 23rd 10-plus scoring game of the season and 91st of her career.
The Bobcats were more efficient than the Lakers, shooting 30.5 percent (18-59) versus Clayton State's 28.1 percent (18-64). The Lakers separated themselves on the charity stripe, hitting 19-of-24 shots, while the Bobcats hit 14-of-19. Clayton State was led by Yishica Sims, who had 22 points and four rebounds, making her the only double-digit player for the Lakers. Tied for second in points were Tiayra Green and Kimberly Sinisterra, each adding eight points.
The loss drops Georgia College to fourth in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) West Standings and two games up on fifth place Georgia Southwestern State University. The Bobcats have two games left to go in the season, needing to maintain their fourth place slot to extend the season and play in the conference tournament.
Next up for the Bobcats is that GSW squad. The game also marks Homecoming for the Bobcats as tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. With a win, Georgia College can clinch a postseason slot.
