Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women's basketball team (14-11, 10-8 PBC) clinched a postseason berth to the Peach Belt Tournament Saturday as they defeated Georgia Southwestern State University (13-12, 7-11 PBC), 73-64.
The Bobcats needed some clutch shooting from sophomore guard Lindsey Reed (Stockbridge), who ended the contest with 12 points and shooting 71 percent (5-7). Reed tied the game up at the 5:08 mark at 55-55, then later stretched Georgia College's lead to four with 2:42 left in the contest. The Bobcats finished the game with a 16-9 to close out the Hurricanes. Enisha Donley (Lawrenceville) added her 67th double-digit point scoring effort for her career and her 17th for the season, finishing the night with 18 points and seven rebounds. Donley now sits at 1,279 career points for her career, one point behind fifth all-time, Dominique Huffman.
Shanteona Keys (Roswell) notched her fifth career double-double with a team high 24 points and 13 rebounds. The senior guard added her 92nd 10-plus scoring effort and 32nd 20-point night for her career. Keys shot 6-of-12 from the floor, while staying perfect from the charity stripe, ending the night 12-for-12. She is now 56 points behind all-time points leader Sherita Ballard, who sits at 1,819.
Georgia College held the Hurricanes to 36.8 percent shooting (28-76) from the field, making the effort their 17th of their last 21 games. The Bobcats dominated the boards on the night, out rebounding Georgia Southwestern 50 to 35.
Tiara Thompson led the Hurricanes with 17 points, and was one of four players to score in double-figures for Georgia Southwestern. Shanedra Lockett and Shatoria Hudson ended the night with 12 points each, while Ja'Quasha Sesler added 10 points.
The Bobcats were able to clinch their spot in the Peach Belt Tournament, with one game left in the season. Georgia College took its PBC West No. 4-seed all the way to the PBC Championship game last year, finishing runner-up to Columbus State University, 60-49.
Georgia College will be back in action, Wednesday, Feb. 25, as they take on Lander University. The night also marks senior night for the Bobcats, with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
