#20 GC Men's Tennis Challenges #1 West Florida in 6-3 Loss

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 20 Georgia College men's tennis team (7-5) took the fight to No. 1 University of West Florida (12-1) falling 6-3 Friday.

The Bobcats got victories in third doubles as well as third and fifth singles. One of the Bobcat singles losses was also in three sets.

Georgia College trailed 2-1 after doubles. Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) and Pedro Ecenarro (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) provided the team point, surviving Carlos Moura and Valentim Goncalves 9-8. Campus and Ecenarro are now a team-best 7-3 on the season.

The national No. 21 pairing of Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) and Vincent Castermans (France) was edged 8-5 by Alex Peyrot and Kenny Brasil in the first slot. Second doubles provided an 8-4 defeat of Taylor Powell (Martinez, Georgia) and Jannik Kumbier (Neumunster, Germany) by Pablo Borrero and Pablo Tellez.

The first singles result came in the fourth spot, when Borrero beat Ecenarro 6-3, 6-2. No. 30 Brasil beat Castermans 6-3, 6-2 in the second slot, and then Campus lost to Sebastian Sanchez 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the team victory for the Argos.

Sophomore Anton Waern (Taby, Sweden) got Bobcat singles started with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 defeat of Douglas Boe in fifth singles. Kumbier then followed suit with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-4 win over Elio Latella in the third slot. Kumbier moves his singles mark to over .500 at 5-4 on the year.

In a ranked battle at first singles, No. 8 Peyrot squeaked past No. 22 Hass 4-6, 7-6, 12-10 to close singles action.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 27 at 11 a.m. traveling to Savannah, Georgia to take on No. 4 Concordia College.
