Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala.- The Georgia College Men's Basketball team (14-5, 7-3 PBC) dug out of an early hole, then slipped up late at the University of Montevallo (11-6, 7-3 PBC) Saturday in an 85-77 Bobcat loss. The defeat halted a three-game win streak for the 'Cats.
The Bobcats had four scorers in double digits, led by 22 points from senior guard Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida). Harris added six boards and four assists to his 16th game of 20-plus scoring this season.
Freshman Chaz Berry (Fayetteville, Georgia) added 17 points, knocking down five from long range, and a team-best eight boards. Senior Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) chipped in with 15 points and a team-high five assists, while sophomore Mark McCorkle (Cumming, Georgia) added a career- high 11 points off the bench, including three from beyond the arc.
The Bobcats dug an early hole, trailing by as much as 15 in the early going at the 8:37 mark in the first half, a 22-7 score. The GC men trailed 34-25 at the half after a strong push to chip away at the lead.
Momentum carried to the second frame, as Georgia College took its first lead 39-38 at the 15:35 mark on a Harris putback off his own miss. The teams traded buckets for a few minutes, but then some empty Bobcat possessions started to mount, and Montevallo eventually pulled away at the free-throw line.
The Bobcats actually out-shot the Falcons 42 percent (28-67) to 41 percent (26-64) from the field, but the difference came in a plus-10 margin in rebounding for UM (48-38), and the Falcons taking 16 more and making 20 more free-throws over the course of the game.
The loss puts Georgia College at 7-3 in conference games, tied with UM and Columbus State University for second in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) West Division. The top four teams advance to the PBC playoffs in March.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m., playing host to PBC West Division leaders Young Harris College. The game will serve as Fan Appreciation Day, complete with pregame corn hole tournament.
