MILLEDGVILLE, Ga. – The No. 12 Georgia College men's tennis team (1-0) was victorious in all nine matches leading to the season-opening victory over Morehouse College (0-1) Saturday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility. The team notched three victories in doubles followed by six in singles to complete the sweep.
All-American Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) and teammate Christian Graff (Lohmar, Germany) got the ball rolling with a first-slot doubles victory over Everette Reese and Rasheed Slade. Hass and Graff combined for an 8-1 victory, picking up the first win of the day for the Bobcat squad.
Following was the combination of Vincent Castermans (Grenoble, France) and Jannik Kumbier (Neumünster, Germany) who defeated Brandon Sanders and Philippian Stamps in the second-slot, 8-0. Kyle Kinsler (Troisdorf, Germany) and Anton Waern (Taby, Sweden) battled to complete the 3-0 doubles sweep with an 8-6 win over Jabez Beazerv and Justin Sample.
Hass continued his dominance in singles play as he once again competed against Reese in the first slot, taking both sets 6-2 and 6-0. Castermans and Graff would then each pick up two-set victories in sixth and fifth singles to push the overall team score to 6-0. Castermans quickly defeated Stamps 6-0, 6-0 and Graff also won his match over Terrell Green.
Fourth singles finished next, with sophomore Pedro Ecenarro (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) giving the Bobcats their decisive seventh victory of the day. Ecenarro dueled with Morhouse's Sanders for two quick sets, eventually picking up the 6-0, 6-0 victory.
With the overall team victory intact, Taylor Powell (Martinez) and Kumbier completed the sweep with 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 victories, respectively.
The Bobcat men pick up the 9-0 season-opening victory. They move to 1-0 overall and in doing so increase their all-time series lead over the Maroon Tigers 21-1. The team will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 5 when they travel to Valdosta State University to take on the Blazers at 2 p.m.
