Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Soccer team (5-4-1, 2-4 PBC) was victorious over Georgia Southwestern State University (3-10, 0-8 PBC) 5-0, in some wet conditions Saturday afternoon.
The rain did not seem to phase the Bobcats on Saturday after putting up a season-high five goals against the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern.
Georgia College set the tone just 46 seconds into the match when senior Allyease Schwartz (Roswell) and sophomore Ragnheidur Bjarnadottir (Gardabaer, Iceland) assisted junior Amanda Bartholomew (Peachtree City) in her third goal of the season. Schwartz and Bjarnadottir worked the ball nicely into the goalie box where they found Bartholomew who finished the score by chipping it over the keeper's head. Schwartz and Bjarnadottir both collected their second assists of the year.
The Bobcats struck again off of a free kick in the 27th minute when senior Sol Baldassini (Miami, Florida) lofted a ball from just beyond the mid-line carrying it all the way to the keeper who was unable to contain it. Baldassini now has three goals in her final season for the Blue and Green.
Georgia College did not let up in the second half. Sophomore Anya Mancinelli (Atlanta) had an exceptional day for the Bobcats scoring off of a free kick in the 74th minute and also recording an assist later in the half. Mancinelli had a free kick from just beyond the box where she fired a bullet that was deflected, but caught some net for her second goal of the season.
The Bobcats were nowhere near done. Mancinelli started an offensive attack by leading sophomore Unnbjorg Omarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) with a nice through ball, who then added a great cross to the trailing Bobcat sophomore Sofia Lekas (Lizella) who buried it in the back of the net for her first goal of the year. Mancinelli and Omarsdottir picked up their first and second assist of the year respectively on the beautifully-worked play.
Georgia College put the last nail in the coffin in the 88th minute when Bobcat newcomer Mary Leigh Amerein (Marietta) scored the first goal of her college career. Amerein dribbled the ball over to the deep left wing where she ripped a shot that just had too much velocity for the leaping Hurricane keeper to contain.
This was a total team effort from the Bobcats Saturday afternoon using all of their players in the match to earn the W.
Georgia College Soccer hopes to carry this momentum to their next match when they visit second place Armstrong State University Monday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.
