Bench, Third Quarter Lead GC Women's Basketball to 77-50 Win over ASU

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (5-1) got strong play for the middle two quarters, en route to a 77-50 victory over Albany State University (1-6) Saturday at the Centennial Center.

Up just a pair after the first frame, the defense took over for the Bobcats, taking the second quarter 14-9 before a massive 27-6 effort in the third. GC Women's Hoops scored 47 total points in the second half.

Senior LaRice Walker (Franklin) posted 17 points with six boards and six assists, her best game of the season thus far. Walker hit 7-for-10 from the floor, including 3-for-3 from long range, eclipsing the 900-point mark for her career on a three-pointer with 1:57 left in the first quarter. The senior guard now stands with 911 in her career, striving to become the 14th player to net 1,000 in school history.

The GC bench provided two 12-point scorers, as sophomore Ana Anderson (Sharpsburg) was 4-for-4 from the field, and nabbed five rebounds. Junior Ta'Asia Wright (Denmark, South Carolina) did Anderson one better in the rebounding category, a solid night of 12 points, six rebounds and a pair of steals. The pair led the Georgia College bench to out-score the Golden Rams 38-22. The 12 was a Bobcat career high for Wright, more than doubling her previous best of five at ASU earlier this year.

The Bobcat defense held Albany State to just 27 percent shooting (16-59) and the Bobcats also owned a 36-10 lead on points in the paint.

Tonight's matchup ends the tour through the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) for Bobcat Women's Hoops this season, as Georgia College went 3-1 against SIAC schools this year.

The Bobcats have a long layoff for Georgia College's finals week, getting back to action Saturday, Dec. 17 at 1:30 p.m., hosting Armstrong State University. That matchup kicks off Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play for the season.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
