YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Georgia College women's basketball team (16-8, 8-7 PBC) claimed a 65-46 victory on the road after taking on the Mountain Lions of Young Harris College (9-13, 4-11 PBC) Thursday.

The Bobcats came out if full-force against the Mountain Lions, establishing an early lead within the first two minutes of play. A two-minute lull in the Bobcats' ferocity allowed Young Harris to attempt to close the gap, but a three-pointer from Mckenna Rushton (Gainesville) resumed the scoring streak and Georgia College ended the first period ahead, 27-8. Kadesha Gibbs (Claremont, North Carolina) kicked off the second period with a layup before another break in scoring from either team. Both teams regained momentum after the seven-minute mark and Georgia College went into halftime with the lead over Young Harris, 39-20.

At the beginning of the third quarter, the Bobcats doubled the Mountain Lions' score after Gibbs landed a free-throw within the first 30 seconds. Georgia College again used the last half of the period to ratchet up its offense, securing a comfortable 23-point lead before the fourth quarter. Rushton was the only starter to return to the court for the final period and she immediately showed why by sinking a shot behind the three-point line. Alyah McGriff (Suwanee) nabbed the final points for the Bobcats with nearly two minutes left on the clock. While Young Harris took advantage of free-throws near the end of the game, it was not enough to diminish Georgia College's lead, and the Bobcats would leave with a win, 65-46.

Rushton was a force of nature this game. She acted as the contest's lead scorer with 25, surpassing her previous career high of 21. During her 37 minutes of play, Rushton contributed over a third of the Bobcats' total of 65. She nailed an impressive 69.2 percent (9-13) of her shots from the floor and sank 77.8 percent (7-9) of her three-point shots for the night. Rushton also recorded 11 boards and earned her second double-double of the season.

Gibbs and LaRice Walker (Franklin) also walked away with double-digit scoring efforts, each contributing 10 points to Georgia College's victory. Walker led the game in assists and McGriff performed efficiently with a 60 percent shooting average (3-5) from the field.

The Bobcats will take the court again Saturday, Feb. 13, when they travel to battle the Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia beginning at 1:30 p.m.
