AUGUSTA, Ga. – Sophomore Pedro Ecenarro (Santiago de Compostella, Spain) of the No. 10 Georgia College Men's Tennis team has been named both the AstroTurf/Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week as well as the Bobcat Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 20.
The 2015 PBC Freshman of the Year buzzed through competition this week, going a total of 6-0 while leading the Bobcats to a 3-0 mark as a team. The sophomore Spaniard teamed with Vincent Castermans (Grenoble, France) for wins over doubles squads for Concord University, the University of Indianapolis and the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Ecenarro became the first Bobcat with double-digit singles wins by beating Concord's Steve Cohn 6-1, 6-0. Against UIndy, he helped turn the tide in a 3-3 match, beating Marco Razo 6-0, 6-3. The Bobcat sophomore then added a shutout of UAH's Rodrigo Palomino Saturday.
Ecenarro marks the second conference weekly honor for GC Men's Tennis, after Powell brought in the award just last week. All-time, the Bobcat men have won the weekly honor on 15 occasions all-time.
