GC Women's Basketball Drops 62-59 Overtime Bout with Augusta

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (9-4, 3-3 PBC) tried their best to battle out of too many early mistakes, falling 62-59 in overtime to Defending NCAA Southeast Region Runner-Up Augusta University (7-6, 2-5 PBC) Saturday in the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats got three scorers in double figures, led by a career-high 17 points from sophomore Sydney Cleveland (Gainesville), the second double-digit scoring game of the youngster's career. Senior LaRice Walker (Franklin) followed close behind with 16 points, adding a game-high seven assists and four rebounds. Junior Alyah McGriff (Suwanee) also had an impactful game of 14 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks.

The Bobcats out-shot Augusta 36 percent (24-67) to 32 percent (20-62) from the floor, and out-rebounded the Jaguars 46-43. The big difference came in turnovers, as the Bobcats coughed it up 24 times, to just 16 for Augusta.

Down 56-54 after a Breonna O'Conner layup with nine seconds left, Georgia College took the ball at halfcourt, setting up a game-tying layup from Walker with three seconds left. A Bobcat defensive stand for the final three seconds brought overtime. In the extra period, O'Conner scored the final three points of the game to seal the win.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m., traveling to No. 24 Columbus State University.
