DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Led by a 21-point, 11-rebound performance from Alyah McGriff (Suwanee), the Georgia College Women's Basketball Team (1-2) blew past Barton College (3-1) 70-40 Friday night as The Bobcats picked up their first win of the season in the 2017 UNG Nighthawk Classic hosted by the University of North Georgia.
The Bobcat defense smothered Barton from the outset, allowing only 14 points in the first half. Georgia College entered the locker room up 25-14 before exploding offensively in the second half for 45 points.
McGriff completed her double-double through 8-of-18 shooting from the floor, and eight offensive rebounds. The only Bobcat to out-rebound McGriff was Ta'Asia Wright (Denmark, South Carolina) who brought down 12 boards while adding 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Erin Drynan (Chicago, Illinois) contributed nine points and 10 rebounds of her own to the stat sheet. In total, Georgia College out-rebounded the Bulldogs 50-23. The trio of McGriff, Wright and Drynan out-scored Barton 45-40.
The Bobcats continue their trip to Dahlonega Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. as they take on Carson-Newman University (4-0).
