Box Score DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (1-3) scored a season-best 73 points Saturday, but it wasn't enough to tame the offensive juggernaut of Carson-Newman University (5-0) as the Bobcats fell to the Eagles 115-73 in day two of the UNG Nighthawk Classic, hosted by the University of North Georgia.
Junior Sydney Cleveland (Gainesville) netted a career-best 21 points in what was nearly a home game for the North Hall High alum.
The Bobcats had trouble with the turnover, coughing it up 20 times while taking away just 12. The Eagles had a 34-13 advantage in points-off-turnovers as a result. Carson-Newman shot 56 percent (42-75) from the field, and got a 44-24 advantage in bench points as well. The point total came just one shy of the Georgia College record for points allowed, giving up 116 to Berry College in 1976.
Cleveland had 21 points, including four three-pointers; all but one of the team total. Senior Alyah McGriff (Suwanee) added 17 points and six rebounds, while senior Ta'Asia Wright (Denmark, South Carolina) posted a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double off the bench. The double-dip was the second-straight for Wright.
C-N guard Haris Price led all scorers with 22, as the Eagles had 11 players reach the scoring column.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Nov. 27 at 5:30 p.m., traveling to No. 15 Lander University for the start of Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play.
