Box Score MORROW, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (12-6, 6-5 PBC) saw its three-game win streak come to a close at Clayton State University (18-4, 10-3 PBC) 65-51 Wednesday night.
The Bobcats had trouble hanging onto the basketball, while the turnover numbers were just a slight disadvantage at 22-21, Clayton State took advantage with a 23-9 in points off turnovers.
Junior Ta'Asia Wright (Denmark, South Carolina) led the Bobcats in scoring with 12, due in large part to a 6-for-7 effort from the free-throw line. She added six boards and four steals, both team highs.
The Bobcats had their only lead early at 4-2 after a pair of free throws from Wright at the 8:51 mark of the first. The first quarter ended with GC Women's hoops down 16-11. After winning the third quarter, a Wright jumper brought the Bobcats within one possession at 48-45 with 7:18 left in the game. Georgia College could inch no closer, as the Lakers responded with a 15-3 run to push it out of reach.
Shooting was close, with both teams hitting at a 33 percent rate. The difference came in the points off turnovers and with the Bobcats going empty on seven shots from long range.
The bench performed well, led by eight points from sophomore Shay Tarver (Covington). Georgia College had 27 points from reserves.
The loss puts Georgia College at 6-5 in conference play, good for fourth in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) West Division. The top four teams advance to the PBC Tournament beginning Feb. 25.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1:30 p.m., traveling to the University of North Georgia.
