Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (14-8, 8-7 PBC) held off a second-half surge from Young Harris College (8-14, 4-11 PBC), as the Bobcats improved to 7-3 on the Centennial Center floor with a 68-54 win over the Mountain Lions.
The Bobcats got three double-digit scorers, including a career effort from junior Brianna Davis (Rockford, Illinois) to take down YHC. Junior Alyah McGriff (Suwanee) had a game-high 18 points, pulling in 16 boards, her 13th double-digit scoring effort this season. McGriff added six rebounds and a pair of assists.
Sophomore Sydney Cleveland (Gainesville) posted 14 points, including four buckets from long range. She nabbed seven rebounds as well. Davis came off the bench for a 12-point game, hitting 5-of-8 from the field to lead the reserves. Ta'Asia Wright (Denmark, South Carolina) paced the team with eight rebounds.
The Bobcats out-shot the Mountain Lions 43 percent (29-67) to 32 percent (17-54) from the floor, with Georgia College owning a 42-35 lead in rebounding and 19-0 advantage in second-chance points.
The Mountain Lions, down 39-24 at the break, got back into it with a 17-13 third quarter, but could inch no closer. Cleveland had eight of her 14 after the halftime horn.
Georgia College improves to 8-7 in PBC play with four contests left. That record puts the Bobcats at fourth in the West Division, with the top four teams advancing to the PBC Tournament Feb. 25. Georgia College could finish as high as second or as low as fifth depending on how the remaining schedule fleshes out.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m., playing host to the University of North Georgia.
