Box Score
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – With dynamic sophomore Harper Vick (Marietta) scoring a career-best 20 points, the Georgia College Women's Basketball team (4-11, 1-6 PBC) came up short in a 63-48 loss to Young Harris College (9-5, 3-3 PBC) Wednesday in the Centennial Center.
Playing in front of their loudest crowd of the year for "Education Day" with elementary and middle school students in attendance, the Bobcats started off with great energy, scoring the first seven points of the game. YHC responded well, pushing in front for the first time with 2:03 left in the first.
A surge at the end of the half for the Mountain Lions put GC down 33-26 headed into the third quarter. The third would prove to be the toughest one for the Bobcats, as YHC extended its lead with a 16-8 advantage in the third and never looked back.
Vick netted 20 points on six field goals, including two from long range, and a 6-for-8 effort from the charity stripe. The mark beats her previous career high of 19 set Dec. 15 at UNC Pembroke.
Junior Keyonna Wesley (Pearson) added 11 points to the cause. Senior Dail Adaway (Tifton) corralled a game-high 12 rebounds, her fifth double-digit rebounding game of the year.
Young Harris edged GC in shooting 37 percent to 34 percent from the floor, owned a 41-35 advantage in rebounding, and caused 24 turnovers while allowing just 15.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1:30 p.m., playing host to Georgia Southwestern State University.
