Box Score AMERICUS, Ga. – Outside of a strong third quarter, the Georgia College Women's Basketball team (1-1, 1-1 PBC) had trouble breaking through a tough Georgia Southwestern State University (4-2, 2-1 PBC) defense, losing 57-37 on the road Wednesday.
Senior Keyonna Wesley (Pearson) led GC for the second game this season, scoring 10 points to go with five rebounds. Eight different Bobcats scored in the ballgame, but no one else managed double-digit points. Sophomore forward Cassidy Markle (Cumming) provided another bright spot, yanking down a game-high 13 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. She also put in seven points.
The first quarter was quiet, as both teams ended the first 10 minutes tied 3-3. GSW had a strong second with 24 points to take a 27-10 advantage. The Bobcats chipped away with a strong third quarter of 20 points.
GC eventually whittled the Hurricane advantage down to four at 39-35 thanks to a 10-0 run starting at the mid-way point of the third and lasting until 7 minutes were left in the contest. From there, it was all Hurricanes as the Bobcat shooting touch went cold.
The Bobcats were out-shot 37 percent to just 18 percent from the floor. GSW also had a 20-8 advantage in points-off-turnovers. The Bobcats did win the rebounding battle, 53-49 thanks in large part to Markle's effort.
