GC Women's Basketball Battles in 64-48 loss to #16 UNG at Home

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA.- Georgia College Women's Basketball (1-6, 1-6 PBC) had an amazing second half offensive performance but came up short to No. 16 University of North Georgia (8-1, 5-1 PBC) Sunday in the Centennial Center.

Bobcats offense put up major points in the second half of the game, keeping the Nighthawks from running away with the game. The Bobcats dug a big hole in the first quarter, not hitting a field goal and finishing the first 10 minutes down 22-4. GC won the second quarter by an 11-7 mark and carried that momentum into the second half. The Bobcats had the UNG lead down to 10 on a couple of occasions in the fourth, but could inch no closer.

In today's conference matchup there were two double-digit scorers in junior Harper Vick (Marietta) and senior Christen Copeland (Gainesville). Vick put up an impressive 16 points, six of those coming from three pointers. Copeland landed a total of 12 points today, matching her career-high, set Feb. 15, 2020 against Georgia Southwestern State University.

The impressive offensive performance would not have been possible if not for leading rebounder freshman Jada Warren (Norcross). Warren had a total of 10 rebounds in today's matchup with more than half on the defensive side of the ball. It was the second double-digit rebounding effort of the freshman's young career. GC led UNG in rebounds in the contest, 36-35.

GC once again faced the No. 3 defense in the Peach Belt Conference but put up much better offensive numbers. The Bobcat defense is No. 4 in the conference and put on a strong showing of their own today. In an odd scheduling quirk, the Bobcats and Nighthawks met twice this week. The GC defense came to play today, allowing 17 less points than Wednesday's road contest.

Georgia College Women's Basketball Team is back in action Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Clayton State University. No visiting spectators are allowed at Wednesday's game, fans can follow live streaming at GCBobcats.com.
