MACON, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team was back on the courts Saturday, competing in the second day of the Mercer Gridiron Classic.
Sophomore Sebastian Nunez (Buford) is the only active player remaining for the Bobcats after day two.
In Flight A1 singles, Karol Malirz (Marbella, Spain) lost in the quarterfinals to Carles Sarrio of Division I Florida Atlantic University 6-2, 6-3.
Flight C2 singles No. 2-seed Nunez picked up a 6-4, 7-6[6] won over Erick Cruz of Point University. Nunez moves on to the semifinals, where he will face Jonathan Judy-Hansen of Auburn University Montgomery tomorrow.
In doubles action, Malirz and Gabriel Cizek (Dolní Břežany, Czech Republic) fell in the quarterfinals of Flight A to No. 4-seed Kevin Patel and Seru Tezuka of Division I Kennesaw State University, 6-2.
The Flight B entry of Nunez and Thomas Brewer (Macon) fell by shutout to Cole Brainard and Ryan Gaskin of the University of North Georgia.
In Flight C doubles, Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) and Jesus Villamizar Abia (Valencia, Venezuela) won by walkover to enter the semifinals. There, the Bobcat duo lost 6-2 to No. 3-seed Chris Andre and Juan Rodriguez of Division I Alabama State University.
Nunez takes on Judy-Hansen tomorrow, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m.
