DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College Soccer squad (6-3, 2-2 PBC) took Peach Belt Conference (PBC) leader the University of North Georgia (6-1-1, 4-0 PBC) to the limit in a 1-0 double-overtime road loss Saturday.
The two teams played fairly even throughout the contest, with North Georgia getting slightly better offensive chances, but the Bobcat defense keeping them off the scoreboard.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Richardson (Marietta) was impressive, making numerous diving and one-handed stops among her nine saves on the match. She had two saves in the first half, six more in the second, then two more saves in the first overtime and one stop in overtime number two.
The game came to a close with under eight minutes left in the second overtime, as Nikki Gomez fired a shot and Richardson made the initial stop. Unfortunately, the rebound ricocheted to Abbie Crane who finished it off.
This marks the first overtime match of the season for the Bobcats, after going 2-0 in overtime efforts during the Spring 2021 season, including a 1-0 win over North Georgia in Milledgeville. The last overtime loss was also at North Georgia, a 3-2 result on Sept. 16, 2017.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m., traveling to Tusculum University.
