GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team began competition at the Lander University Invitational Saturday.
The Bobcats went 1-7 in singles and 0-3 in doubles in day one action.
In Flight 1, Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) lost to Georgije Babic 6-3, 3-6 [10-5]. Jesus Villamizar Abia (Venezuela) also battled in that flight, falling to Alexandre Crepy 6-4, 7-5.
The Bobcats sent two into Flight 2, with Aurelien Arlot (Houilles, France) losing to Artur Davydovskiy 4-6, 7-5 [10-4]. Lukas Zavrel (Ulvano, Czech Republic) dropped a 6-1, 7-5 bout to Daniel Martens.
Flight 3 brought some success for the Bobcats, as Jack Sorel (Alpharetta, Georgia) topped Alvaro Quereda 6-2, 6-0. Ben Grunert (Roswell, Georgia) also played in this flight, dropping a hard-fought matchup with Jack Coleman 6-7[5], 6-2, [10-3].
Flight 4 saw Masumi Komada (Aichi, Japan) and Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) for the Bobcats, both players falling in the opening round. Komada lost to Thomas De Negri in a 6-3, 3-6 [12-10] nail-biter, and Sergi lost to Ricard Rubio 6-2, 6-3.
Komada and Arlot teamed in the round-robin Holyoak Flight, losing to Babic and Matos 6-3. In the Simpson Flight, Sergi and Sorel lost to Cardoso and Cariov 6-2.
The Teixeira Flight saw Zavrel and Robinson lose to Crepy and De Negri 6-3.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Oct. 10 wrapping up the tournament at Lander.
