Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (3-4) won their home opener 66-48 over Edward Waters University (7-4) Wednesday at the Centennial Center, evening the season series.
The Bobcats used a 12-0 run to start the fourth quarter to pull away in a tight contest, marking revenge for a 78-51 loss to the Tigers last month on the road.
The Bobcats started guns blazing in the first quarter putting up 18 points over the Tigers defense. Forward Anaya Cone (Douglasville) led the squad with nine first-quarter points. In the first quarter alone GC sangged 12 rebounds with 10 coming under the defensive basket.
GC led EWU going into the half at 27-21. Harper Vick (Marietta) led the squad netting 10 points at the break. GC patrolled the baskets nabbing 13 more rebounds in the second quarter with six coming from the Tiger basket.
After the half, Edward Waters came out sharp with a big 24-point quarter, taking the lead at the third break 45-40. The Bobcats started the fourth quarter on a 12 point run to take the game back for good.
GC secured 52 rebounds 35 of which came on defense which limited the Tigers second chance points. The defense also forced 13 turnovers including five steals.
Vick led the squad with a season high of 25 points. She went 10-for-15 from the field, 2-for-4 from the three point arc, and 3-for-5 from the stripe. Vick also snagged nine rebounds, six coming off of missed Tiger shots.
Cone recorded a double-double, netting 11 points and coming down with a game-best 12 rebounds. Cone is the first player on the roster to record a double-double this season. She went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Rookie guard Ashyia Willis (Gainesville) had a double-digit scoring game as she banked 11 points. To add to her box score, Willis came down with five rebounds.
The Bobcats did a great job getting to the line, knocking down 18 free-throws as a team to just eight attempts for the Tigers. GC also used great bench production, out-scoring EWU's reserves 22-9. Each of the four Bobcat reserves notched points.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Dec. 4 on the road at Limestone University. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. with live stats and video links available at GCBobcats.com.
