MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (4-6, 1-1 PBC) withstood an early barrage to pick up their first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) win of the season, beating Young Harris College (8-2, 0-1 PBC) 72-61 Wednesday afternoon at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats dug an early hole, as the Mountain Lions couldn't miss, jumping out to an 16-3 lead in the first five minutes. The Bobcats chipped away however, only trailing by three at the half, 39-36. The first lead for GC came at the 6:31 mark in the third quarter on an Anaya Cone (Douglasville) layup. Georgia College started the fourth on a 9-2 run to make things a little more comfortable and controlled the remainder of play for the victory.
The Bobcats had a balanced attack with four double-digit scorers. Junior Harper Vick (Marietta) led with 16 points, going 4-for-5 from long range. Cone added a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double, her second this season.
Freshman Ashyia Willis (Gainesville) posted 14 points and a team-high six assists, while classmate Alexa Geary (Calhoun) netted a career-high 10 points with seven rebounds.
The Bobcats did great work on the boards, out-rebounding YHC 42-29. GC had a 26-18 advantage in points in the paint.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Dec. 31 at 4 p.m., traveling to Shorter University.
