Box Score 2 MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.-The Georgia College Softball Team (4-8) took two wins Sunday including a sixth inning run-rule win at the University of Mount Olive (5-5), 8-5 and 14-3.
Game one of the doubleheader resulted in a Bobcat win, scoring four runs in the fourth inning then four more in the sixth. GC plated four runs on double doubles starting with sophomore Sadie Waters (Cumming, Georgia) and then fellow classmate Ashley Schell (Cumming, Georgia). Golden Thrower (Hanahan, South Carolina) and Katelyn Hobbs (Thomasville, Georgia) scored on the Waters multi-base knock. With Waters reaching base on her double, she and the senior Haley Howell (Rochelle, Georgia) were able to put up two more Bobcat runs on the Schell double.
The sixth inning came around for GC and they were able to plate four more runs. The first that came across was the junior Carlie Behan (Cumming, Georgia) off of the MacKenzie Hoffman (Rocky Face, Georgia) single to left field. The team home run leader Hobbs struck again with her third home run of the season scoring Hoffman and Schell.
The pitching duties for the game were split between the junior ace MacKenzie Michels (Lilburn, Georgia) and junior Ally Black (Norris City, Illinois). Michels got the start and the win, getting a strikeout victim and only allowing three earned runs. Black came in for relief for a few batters allowing two earned runs on two hits.
In game two the GC offense continued to stay hot, putting up 14 runs on the Trojans pitching staff. Three Bobcats had multi-base hits in game two including a Samantha Vinson (Jefferson, Georgia) three-run homer. Through five innings the Bobcats put up 10 runs but they weren't done there as they put up four more runs in the sixth with three of those runs coming from the Hoffman triple.
The complete game pitching duties were done by Holly Phillips (Macon, Georgia). Phillips earned herself two strikeout victims and only allowed two earned runs on seven hits. Phillips was dominant on the mound, helping her offense secure the mercy rule victory.
