Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Georgia College Soccer Team (4-2) had a stellar offensive performance Thursday in their first road matchup of the season at Newberry College (0-5), 3-1.
The Bobcats struck early, scoring the first goal in the first 12 minutes of the match. Becca Morris (Marietta, Georgia) had the early boot and the goal on a do-it-yourself starting around the midfield mark. Morris received the ball and dribbled up the field to rifle one over the Newberry keeper.
The next goal was also off the foot of Morris, this time with the assist from Cassie Balzano (Douglasville, Georgia). Balzano made her way upfield to find her target, Morris, to dump it about 20 yards out for Morris to find the back net.
Newberry countered back to cut the Bobcat lead to one going into halftime at 2-1 in favor of GC.
The Wolf offense went quiet the rest of the match but the Bobcats did not stop at their two first-half goals. Aralyn Everett (Covington, Georgia) drove in the third and final goal of the match in the 78th minute. A little pinball action happened with the soccer ball around the 10-yard mark for Everett to recover and solidify the Bobcat win.
The GC defense was on fire as they held Newberry to only nine shots in the match. The center backs Taylor Salvaggio (Bethlehem, Georgia) and Sydney Charles (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) kept the forwards from getting into scoring position with the left-back Katelyn Smith (Augusta, Georgia) and right back Ryann Smith (Sharpsburg, Georgia) keeping the Wolf midfielders from creating space to get the pass off.
Goalkeeper Kate Richardson (Marietta, Georgia) had an impressive four saves out of the five shots on goal delivered from Newberry.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Sept. 25 at Georgia Southwestern State University for the first road game in conference play. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with live stats and broadcast available at GCBobcats.com.
