Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College Soccer Team (5-2, 2-1 PBC) took down Albany State University (1-6, 0-2 PBC) for the Bobcats' second conference shutout of the season Wednesday night at Bobcat Field.
The Bobcat offense was quiet in the first half only scoring one of four goals. The first goal came off the foot of super senior Becca Morris (Marietta) in the 37th minute. Ellie Watson (Newnan) picked up her first assist of the season on the first half Morris goal. Morris received the ball from Watson around the 20-yard mark and booted to the back netting.
The second goal was also off the foot of Morris, this time in the 64th minute of the match. Fellow super senior Cassie Balzano (Douglasville) had the assist as she dumped the ball to Morris on the right side for a left foot goal to put the Bobcats up 2-0. The second Morris knock-in of the night makes her the third-highest scorer in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC).
A few minutes later in the 68th minute of the match, Alyssa Bergamini (Suffield, Connecticut) scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Balzano. Balzano pushed the ball to Bergamini on the left side of the goal for a right-foot boot into the back of the net. With this assist, Balzano moved into third overall in GC soccer history with 13. The previous occupants of that slot were a tie for Daria Owen (2009) and Amanda Bartholomew (2018) with 12.
The final goal of the match came off the foot of Balzano in the 86th minute of the game with the assist from Taylor Salvaggio (Bethlehem). The assist from Salvaggio was the first of her career as she went in for the shot that ricocheted off of the Golden Ram keeper right to the dominant foot of Balzano to finish for the goal. This Balzano goal makes her the lead scorer in the PBC with seven on the season.
The Bobcat defense was impenetrable as they allowed zero shots on the match for the second match in a row. This is the first time in program history that the defense has held two teams to zero shots in back-to-back games let alone in conference play.
The Bobcat defense was led by center-back Salvaggio who constantly works with fellow center-back Sydney Charles (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) to keep the forwards from getting shots off. The left and right wings for GC kept ASU on their toes and prevented forward progress from the midfielders.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Oct. 2 at the University of North Georgia. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m. with live stats and video available at GCBobcats.com.
