Bobcat Men's Hoops Tagged with First Loss of Season at Tuskegee, 49-48

Box Score

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – In a defensive struggle, the Georgia College & State University Men's Basketball team (2-1) was upended by a late-second shot, falling at Tuskegee University (3-0) 49-48 Tuesday.

The Bobcats led for the majority of the contest, picking up a lead at the 14:37 mark in the first half that would last until the waning seconds. The second-half advantage never got into double-digits for GCSU, and the Tigers eventually nabbed the lead with three ticks left on the clock, as D'Anthony Pennington pulled in a Bobcat missed free throw and then knocked down a shot on the other end of the floor. The Bobcats had a last-second shot miss the mark, falling by one.

The Tuskegee defense was stingy, holding the Bobcats to just 19 field goals for the game, and locking down in the second half to allow only 29 percent shooting (7-24) after halftime.

A trio of Bobcats had nine points each to lead the team, those being sophomore Austin Sloan (Warner Robins, Georgia), senior Christian Koneman (Chatsworth, Georgia) and junior Brandon Thomas (McDonough, Georgia). Koneman yanked down 12 rebounds as well, narrowly missing his first double-double this season.

The 48 points are the fewest by the Bobcats this young season, and lowest scoring total since Nov. 12, 2016, netting 42 points against Emmanuel College. The loss brings the all-time series between GCSU and Tuskegee to a 5-2 lead for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m., playing host to Limestone University.
