YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Women's Basketball team (8-1, 1-0 PBC) got defensive in a 55-46 win to start Peach Belt Conference (PBC) action at Young Harris College (3-3, 0-1 PBC) Saturday.
The Mountain Lions took the first quarter 14-12, but the Bobcats dominated the second by a 17-3 score to take over. GCSU grabbed the lead at 15-14 with a three-pointer by sophomore Alexa Geary (Calhoun) at the 8:45 mark in the second, and never surrendered the advantage from there.
Geary led all scorers with 17 points, including five three-pointers. Geary has now scored in double digits for all nine games this season, the only Bobcat to do so. Sophomore guard Ashyia Willis (Gainesville) had 15 points, while senior Harper Vick (Marietta) contributed 12 with seven rebounds. This was the 60th double-digit scoring game for Vick all-time.
The Bobcats won rebounding once again today, beating YHC 43-34. Sophomore Jada Warren (Norcross) led the way with 11. GCSU took care of things from the charity stripe as well, hitting 10-for-11 from the line.
Vick's 12 points give the senior 1,160 in her career, good for ninth in school history. She passed Alicia Wilson (1997) in today's game.
The win puts the Bobcats up 12-9 in the all-time series with Young Harris. Georgia College has won half of their conference openers under head coach Ross Jolly.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Dec. 12 at 5:30 p.m., traveling to No. 14 University of North Georgia.
