MACON, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team (1-2) lost by shutout at Division I Mercer University (5-3) Wednesday.
Doubles play brought a Mercer sweep. In the first slot, Gabriel Cizek (Dolní Břežany, Czech Republic) and Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) lost to Lucas Wayenburg and David Georgadze, 6-4. In second doubles, Karol Malirz (Marbella, Spain) and his partner lost 6-2 to Andrew Branicki and Samuel Barrow. The third slot was a 6-4 defeat for Aurelien Arlot (Houilles, France) and Sebastian Nunez (Buford) by Danny Flynn and Samuel MacLeod.
The Bears also swept singles play.
Malirz pushed Wayenburg to the limit in the first slot, falling 3-6, 7-5, 11-9. Cizek lost to Georgadze 7-5, 6-2 in second singles. Third singles was another hard-fought loss, as Masumi Komada (Aichi, Japan) fell to Flynn 5-7, 6-3, 10-8.
In fourth singles, Sergi lost to MacLeod in a pair of 6-1 sets. Arlot dropped a pair of 6-4 sets to Marceau Fouilhoux in fifth singles, and Jesus Villamizar Abia (Valencia, Venezuela) lost to Samuel Barrow 7-6, 6-3 in the sixth slot.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m., traveling to North Greenville University.
