Bobcat Women Suffer Home Loss to #10 Ranked Lander, 67-48

PEACH BELT STANDINGS

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (8-16, 5-10 PBC) fell to the Peach Belt Conference's (PBC) top-ranked team in No. 19 Lander University (18-3, 12-3 PBC) 67-48 in the Centennial Center Wednesday. 

The GC offense had two double-digit scorers on the night in freshman Ashyia Willis (Gainesville) and junior Harper Vick (Marietta). Willis netted 15 points on the night, going 7-for-13 from field goal range with a three point bucket. Vick banked 11 points making all of her baskets inside the arc and had five rebounds. 

Freshman Alexa Geary (Calhoun) led the squad in rebounds with seven. She also knocked in eight points with two three pointers. The second leading rebounder was Vick with five. Cassidy Markle (Cumming) and Savannah Casey (Canton) both nabbed four rebounds a piece with Casey also netting eight points.

Cierra Foster (Canton) and Vick led the first quarter scoring for the Bobcats with four points respectively. Casey had the other three points as the Bobcats dug a hole in the first quarter 24-11. The Bobcat defense was able to hold the Bearcats to 12 points in the second quarter. Geary netted five of the nine Bobcat second quarter points. GC trailed 36-20 going into the half. 

Coming out of the half, GC netted eight points with Willis scoring four. Lander came out of the half and netted 18 points. Going into the fourth quarter, GC trailed 54-28. The Bobcats had their highest scoring quarter netting 20 points to the Bearcats 13. Willis led the charge netting eight points with Casey banking five. 

The loss puts the Bobcats at 5-10 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, tied for seventh in the league standings. The top eight qualify for the PBC Tournament in March.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 19 at Clayton State University. Tip off is set for 1:30 p.m. with live stats and video links available at GCBobcats.com.
