Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (8-17, 5-13 PBC) did its best but couldn't overcome an early deficit, eventually falling to Columbus State University (16-12, 9-9 PBC) 70-57 Saturday at Homecoming in the Centennial Center.
Freshman sharpshooter Alexa Geary (Calhoun) poured in 24 points, her second 20-point contest this year. She went 6-of-14 from long range, as Georgia College needed her buckets to get back in it. She added nine boards for a near double-double as well. Classmate Ashyia Willis (Willis) added 12 points.
The Bobcats started slow, trailing 14-0 after the first four minutes. GC trailed by as many as 23 at one point. The Bobcat Women clawed back from there, eventually cutting it to a three-possession game with 2:30 left in the contest. The rally stalled there as CSU closed the game out.
The GC Women matched CSU in rebounds, 48-48 and turnovers caused 20-20. The Cougars just made the most out of their chances, shooting 43% from the field and the Bobcats just 27%.
The loss brings the season to a close for Bobcat Women's Hoops. Georgia College finished 8-17, a marked improvement from the previous campaign. With no seniors lost to graduation, the Bobcats are poised for success in 2022-23.
